Parts of the book are very good. Even though this type of story's been told about a million times when it comes to horses, the extra twists made me worry about the ending while I read it. At the same time, some of the things in the book just don't feel right — the main character, Tessa, is only around 12 when the book starts, but she feels more like a 16-year-old right from the start, in her thoughts and actions. It's a pretty good rags-to-riches story, with all the extra things thrown in — love, hatred ... er, yes. It's a little expensive (I've got a hardcover and haven't seen it in paperback), but if you have some extra money or can find it at the library, it's not a bad read. Otherwise, you won't be missing a whole lot.
