Description: The Whole Horse
Catalog is the result of a collaboration between writers
and editors Steven D. Price, Barbara Burn, Gail Rentsch, and
David A. Spector. Each chose to manage particular sections of
the book, focusing on their areas of expertise. The finished
product is an all-around horse reference full of information
every horse owner should know. Hundreds of black and white illustrations,
contributed by Werner Rentsch, and photographs bring additional
meaning to the text. First published in 1977 by Brigadore Press,
Inc., the Catalog was revised and updated in 1998 to
cover everything from recent advances in equine nutrition to
top sources on the World Wide Web.

I got my copy for $20 from the AQHA gift shop, but you'll probably
be able to find the same book for less online. (Just be sure
you're dealing with a reputable company.) After reading it cover-to-cover
at home, I found it to be well worth the money and would highly
recommend it to every horse owner or anyone just looking to
learn more about horses. It's very complete but never gets bogged
down — it stays clear and concise throughout the entire
book. The combined efforts of four different people makes the
Catalog all the more interesting, and the different
writing styles blend seamlessly. It fits so well together you'd
think it was written by only one person!
