Whether you're in the market for a horse or just increasing your knowledge of them, an understanding of different breeds can be both useful and fun. We are always looking for information on the lesser-known breeds, so drop us a line if you know of some.

Andalusian
The elegant Spanish Andalusian is reknowned for performing the difficult movements of the haute école. 15-15.2 h and predominantly grey or bay.

Arabian
The oldest and purest of horse breeds, the Arabian boasts more than a dished profile and up-flung tail. 14.2-15 h and chestnut, grey, bay, or black.

Clydesdale
These famous draught horses can be seen everywhere from televised Budweiser commercials to pulling carriages at the fair. 16.2-over 17.2 h and mostly bay.

Miniature (or Falabella)
They're just like regular horses, but miniature! These cuties used to work in the Appalachian coal mines, but now they make excellent pets. Under 34".

Morgan
Traced back to a single stallion, the Morgan is recognized for great strength in a small frame. 14.1-15.2h and bay, chestnut, brown, or black.

Mule
A cross between the donkey and horse, mules may live up to their stubborn reputation, but they're also very gentle, intelligent, and versatile.

Shetland Pony
This sweet, sure-footed island pony has become the strongest equine relative to its size alive today. 9.3-10.2 h and most colors.
